The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remains one of the most enduring open-world role-playing games in gaming history, continuing to attract players on modern hardware. If you are looking to step into the province of Skyrim on PlayStation 5, understanding the various available versions and their respective price points is essential before making a purchase. This comprehensive price guide outlines what you can expect to pay for the game across different digital and physical offerings.
Understanding Skyrim Special Edition Pricing on PS5
The Special Edition serves as the core base version for PlayStation 5 players, featuring remastered art, upgraded graphical effects, and faster loading times. Standard digital pricing for this version on the PlayStation Store generally sits around $39.99 to $49.99 when not on sale. However, players frequently catch this edition discounted during seasonal store sales for a fraction of its base price.
For physical media collectors, disc versions of the Special Edition are widely available at major retail stores. Pre-owned physical copies often offer a cost-effective alternative for players seeking a bargain. Additionally, owners of the PS4 physical disc can access digital upgrade options when playing on a PS5 console with a disc drive.
Skyrim Anniversary Edition Cost and Contents
The Anniversary Edition represents the ultimate Skyrim release, bundling the Special Edition alongside a massive collection of Creation Club add-ons. Full digital purchases of the Anniversary Edition typically carry a standard manufacturer suggested retail price of $49.99 at launch. This edition provides immediate access to extra quests, weapons, armor sets, and gameplay mechanics like fishing.
If you already own the Special Edition, Bethesda offers a standalone digital Anniversary Upgrade for $19.99. This option allows existing players to expand their base game without needing to pay full price for a standalone bundle. Discount events regularly reduce the cost of both the full Anniversary bundle and its standalone upgrade path.
PlayStation Plus Subscription Options
PlayStation 5 users can also access Skyrim without purchasing a standalone copy through Sony's gaming subscription tier. By subscribing to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, members gain access to Skyrim as part of the rotating Game Catalog. This service provides a budget-friendly option for players who want to explore Tamriel while enjoying a vast library of additional titles.
Tips for Finding the Best Skyrim PS5 Deal
